LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE FULLEST

Well... I'm still not in Costa Rica. But Toronto is pretty exciting. Mostly the part of Toronto that consists of season 1 of Lost. Man, I never felt like a newbie watching season two of that show until I realized that nothing that new has really happened. Much a teenage girl who thought Ani Difranco was speaking specifically specifically to her but then found out that she's been around forever.

Last night I continued my preliminary research into Costa Rica by meeting up with my old camp chum Christine Elder. She spent several months earlier this year in the Kingdom of Costa Rica, and was able to debunk several common misconceptions about the country. For example, did you know that Costa Rica is not it fact the Kingdom ruled by a benevolent monarch which is often portrayed in the media? In fact it is a democracy ruled by "the people" (she may or may not have made some disparaging comments about the COCA-COLA Corporation here *, but I've edited that out). Also the footwear she recommends is sandals or perhaps, shoes.

Our conversation also drifted off towards the topic of social activism, and helping the people of Costa Rica, and women's conferences. She said that when organizing a women's conference work with "a firm hand, but have a loose grip.*" She also suggested as a key note speaker I find a local social worker, preferably a woman but a man would also be acceptable.

She also highly praised the coffee of Costa Rica saying that she didn't like coffee before going, but loves it now. I was sort of confused at this comment though as she was drinking a cup of second cup 'apple cider.'

My Spanish language instruction is still continuing.

I don't' think it's working out : "Creo quie la relacion no esta funcionando."
I want to remain friends: "Me gustaria que quedaramos como amigos."

wellness this new year to you
dave

*- Christine didn't say these parts, although I'm confident that if I fed her these lines asking her to say them so I could quote her on my blog, i'm pretty sure she would have just done it.

The Power and the Glory

So I've been discovering lately that there really isn't that much to write in a blog about traveling and being handsome before you leave for the trip. well you can write about being handsome i guess... but that would just be egotistical.

In other news i did travel to hamilton last night. it was foggy and smelled funny. Then at a bar i found a looney on the floor. it was awesome.

i also gave kim permission to post on here but as of yet she hasn't. i tell her that people died so that she would have the right to free speech but she seemed unaffected. i bet she probably won't even vote. typical.

also my meager spanish training is still continuing

Do you want to go out with me? : Quieres salir conmigo?
Get Lost!!! : !VETE!: !Hasta nunca!

also if anyone knows how to get into costa rica without a ticket out please tell me. apparently its illegal... or whatever.

Trouble in paradise... before we arrive in paradise...

Apparently Kim has a problem with the blog for "our" trip being about me being handsome. Really i think its kind of a double standard. If i made the blog called "Kim Mcleod is beautiful" (which she is) I wouldn't be a jerk who is excluding half of the team.... rather i would be a sweetheart. But as soon as you say something like that about yourself you are an "egotistical jerk." Well kim... maybe you should start thinking about somebody other than yourself for a change. Most girlfriends would love it if somebody thought their boyfriend was handsome... EVEN if it was himself. Think about it... sure i'm handsome... but you get to date me.

SO... this blog might get lost in favour of some 'hillarious' name like "DAVE AND KIM'S WACKY ADVENTURES"... or "COSTA RICA CRAZYNESS WITH KIM AND DAVE".... or even "Dave and his wonderful beautiful girlfriend travelling together"....... (see kim i am selfless enough that i am even SUGGESTING THAT name)

be well

Winter is for suckers

so.... after selling trees to celebrate the birth of our "saviour" i've come to realize that christ aint gonna save me from winter. the only thing that's going to save me from the hazards of the hash climate the devil relegated me to is a one way ticket to costa rica. also i really got to leave before this election stuff gets crazy. seriously... these days my dad and i get in such heated debates about environmentalism as he drives me to work in his SUV that ocassionaly i forget my coffee in his car. also i'm pretty sure it's not fare trade. so i'm going to costa rica. my girlfriend (kim) is tagging along. i guess she might want to post here to. although it will be easy to tell whos is whos.... mine will be facts and important information whereas she will talk mostly about nails and survivor.... none the less... we're getting one way tickets to costa rica and blogs seem to be way cooler than mass emails. those so went out like 4 years ago.
